How we work

The approaches that underpin our way of working ensure that our organisation stays fit-for-purpose and reflects local realities on the one hand, and an ever-changing world on the other.

For children, with children. We ensure that children are part of shaping the solutions. Children and young people are part of our organisation, and their voices are central to all the decisions we make. This commitment also comes with an unwavering attention to keeping children safe in all the work we do together.

Human-centred design. Our design process starts with the human element of governance, with a particular focus on children, young people, and the professionals working with them.

Equity. Every child has the right to be heard, but they have different needs for support in expressing themselves. We recognise the diversity of children’s needs and experiences, and design solutions that meet the needs of all children.

Sustainable impact. Critical to our work are long-term solutions with sustainable impact, which build on systematic change that is financially and politically tenable.

Reuse and improve. We believe that the best solutions often are the ones that already exist. We build on and improve tested solutions with proven impact and integrate them into existing structures.

Build on existing ecosystems. Child-friendly governance must be integrated into and build on – not add onto – existing ecosystems for sustainable impact. Success rarely depends on one actor alone, but rather on an ecosystem of different stakeholders from government to private sector and civil society. We recognise the importance of inviting everyone to be part of the solution.

Design for scale. All our projects are designed with scalability in mind. We focus on adaptable and cost-efficient solutions that can be applied to different local realities.

Results-focus. Our focus is on solutions that create tangible results in the lives of children. This means that we are committed to constantly evaluating our progress and the impact of our work. If we cannot achieve results, we adjust our approach.
